NBC SPORTS AND UNIVERSAL SPORTS PRESENT MORE THAN 18 HOURS OF GYMNASTICS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS


Extensive Coverage of Championships Includes Athlete Interviews with Nastia Liukin and LIVE webcasts on UniversalSports.com



LOS ANGELES – October 13, 2009 – 2008 Beijing Olympic silver medalist and 2009 U.S. all-around champion Jonathon Horton headlines the U.S. team as NBC Sports and Universal Sports, in cooperation with the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), present more than 18 hours of television coverage of the 2009 Gymnastics World Championships beginning this Thursday from London. Coverage of the 41st FIG World Championships includes men’s and women’s individual and team events.  


NBC Sports Olympic gymnastics broadcast team of Al Trautwig, Tim Daggett, Elfi Schlegal and Andrea Joyce will provide the commentary for NBC Sports while Daggett will team with three-time Olympian John Roethlisberger for the coverage on Universal Sports. 


Additionally, Olympic all-around gold medalist Nastia Liukin will be in London on the competition floor to speak with members of the U.S. Team after their performances. The interviews will be included in the nighttime premiere of the event on Universal Sports.


COVERAGE ON UNIVERSAL SPORTS: Universal Sports will provide same-day coverage of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, beginning with the men’s all-around finals on Thursday at 8 p.m. with an encore presentation at 11 p.m.  Universal Sports will re-air the men’s all-around finals, and the apparatus finals at 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. ET from October 19 – 21, 2009. The women’s all-around finals will premiere on Universal Sports on October 28 at 8 p.m., with an encore presentation at 11 p.m. ET.


COVERAGE ON UNIVERSALSPORTS.COM: UniversalSports.com will provide live streaming video of all finals during the Championships. Live webcast begins at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday. COVERAGE ON NBC SPORTS: NBC Sports will air four hours of competition on Saturday, October 24 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. ET and Sunday, October 25 from 2 – 4 p.m. ET.
